18.5 hours/week – days, evenings and weekends
(Final schedule will be determined after training is completed.)

The Valley Cottage Library is seeking a dependable and friendly person to join our busy Circulation department. This part-time position will train on Mondays 2-5, Tuesdays 10-5, Thursdays 4:30-9 and Fridays 9:30 – 1:30. The final work schedule after training is completed will include day, evening and weekend shifts.

The position includes Circulation Desk duties: checking in and out library materials, issuing library cards, collecting fines/fees, assisting patrons in maintaining their library records in accordance with the procedures and policies of the library, opening and/or closing the library on assigned days, as well as a variety of general clerical duties.

This position requires strong computer skills, including the ability to prepare Word documents, print and send emails. Other requirements include: strong customer service skills, the ability to juggle multiple demands, the ability to express ideas clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing, to be attentive to detail and to interact tactfully and courteously with patrons and staff. The candidate should be able to do physical work such as, standing, bending and lifting (up to 30 lbs).

Three years of office or library experience is required, a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Familiarity with Symphony library software a plus.
This position requires an 18.5-hour work week and will include evening and weekend assignments. This position is entitled to paid vacation, holiday and sick time.

The Valley Cottage Library seeks a dedicated and organized individual for a part-time clerical position within the Technical Services Department. The Technical Services Department is responsible for the ordering, processing, and maintenance of materials collections throughout the library. This job requires the ability to navigate through specialized library software programs such as SirsiDynix Symphony Acquisitions module and relevant online environments. Attention to detail is essential for the processing of varied materials into the library collection. Familiarity with budgeting and invoicing schemes is desired.

The successful candidate will be able to seamlessly transition through multiple computer environments as well as possess excellent oral and written communication skills. This job requires the physical capability to lift, pull and push objects up to 25 pounds.
Hours for this position are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10am-4pm.
