Registration for our Fall Programs occurring Sept. 11 through Dec. 31 will open on Sept. 1 for Nyack School District patrons.
Beginning Sept. 15, registration for all programs will start for out of district patrons.

SUMMER READING CLUB: Build a Better World!

June 17-August 19.
Join the Valley Cottage Library’s Summer Reading Club! Daily reading habits help children retain information they have learned.

Registration & daily reading recording started JUNE 17.
The last day to log books is August 19.
The last day to spend book bucks earned on prizes is September 9.


Pick up Reading Logs at the library or print from online. The Club is open to all children from infants to children entering 5th grade.

[Teens from 6th grade and up and adults have their own Summer Reading Clubs! They can register for teen and adult Summer Reading Clubs at the adult reference desk starting June 17th.]

Read books at home & keep track of your reading on your reading log. Younger non-readers can record books read to them, or Early Literacy Activities that they do together with an adult. Everyone will bring their reading/activity logs to the library to win prizes.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

1000 Books Before Kindergarten: This program promotes reading to newborns, infants, toddlers, and children up to Kindergarten. The goal is to have read 1000 books before your child starts Kindergarten. Stop by the Children’s Room any time to sign up, get more information, and your first reading record.
ANNOUNCEMENTS

A great big “Thank You” and “Congratulations” to our patron Isabella Feeney for creating ‘Turn the Pages’ interactive book display as her Gold Award Girl Scout project! Children and Middle Schoolers are invited to borrow and suggest great books using this permanent display in the Children’s Room. Young children will get a prize when they participate, and Middle and High School kids can earn community service. Stop by to learn more!

Come read with an older buddy! Young readers will register for a 30 minute time slot, then the library will pair them with a teen volunteer to read together, sharing their love of reading while improving skills.

Give a Kid a Book

Throughout October and November, the Children’s Room will collect new, unused books for the Library Association of Rockland County’s Youth Services. Books will be given as gifts to children through local charities during the holidays.

We’ll dig into an adventure searching for ‘fossils’ and other dinosaur treasures from prehistoric times! Solve some puzzles with ABC’s, colors, and shapes to earn fun prizes!

Sept. 11: Miss Brooks’ Story Nook, by Barbara Bottner. We’ll read the book together, then make a fun Fall craft. **(Registration for this program opens on September 1 for NSD residents and out of district residents.)
Oct. 16: How Big Could Your Pumpkin Grow? by Wendell Minor. We’ll read the book together, then decorate a pumpkin to take home.
Nov. 13: Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks, by Margaret Sutherland. We’ll read the book together, then make a Thanksgiving craft.

Imagine living in a place that gets flooded every day! Join The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk to meet and touch live crabs, sea stars, snails and more, all while learning about challenges faced by these amazing and resilient animals of Long Island Sound’s intertidal zone. Learn how animals adapt to environmental changes and how the moon influences the tides.

- Priority is given to residents of the Nyack School District.
- Residents outside of the Nyack School District may register for remaining program spots after Nyack School District patrons.

- Programs are designed for the intended age group.
