ONGOING PROGRAMS

1000 Books Before Kindergarten: This program promotes reading to newborns, infants, toddlers, and children up to Kindergarten. The goal is to have read 1000 books before your child starts Kindergarten. Stop by the Children’s Room any time to sign up, get more information, and your first reading record.
Stop Motion Videos

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A great big “Thank You” and “Congratulations” to our patron Isabella Feeney for creating ‘Turn the Pages’ interactive book display as her Gold Award Girl Scout project! Children and Middle Schoolers are invited to borrow and suggest great books using this permanent display in the Children’s Room. Young children will get a prize when they participate, and Middle and High School kids can earn community service. Stop by to learn more!

Fall Family Programs

Teddy Bear Stories

Select Mondays at 6:30pm: Oct. 2 & Nov. 27.
Ages 2 and up with adult(s).

Wear your PJs and bring your favorite snuggly friend for this night-time Family Storytime.

Sensory Family Storytime

Select Saturdays at 10:30am: Oct. 7 & Nov. 18
Ages 3 and up with adult(s).

We’ll explore books and stories through a variety of sensory avenues, including singing and moving around. A welcoming storytime for all children including those on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing disorders.

Give a Kid a Book

Between October 1 and November 16, the Children’s Room will collect new, unused books for the Library Association of Rockland County’s Youth Services. Books will be given as gifts to children through local charities during the holidays.
School Closing Crafts

Select dates from 10am-2pm
Ages 3 and up with adult(s).

Drop in during the following school closing days to create a cool craft – a different craft for each day.

CONGRATULATIONS to KEVIN the MINION!

He won our election with 16 out of 27 votes on November 7th.
Spot came in second with 5 votes, and Maisy and Dora tied for third with 3 votes for each.

Pint-size Playtime

Fridays from 11:30am – 1:30pm

Age 35 months and under.

Drop in anytime for playtime geared especially for tiny tots. The Storytime Room will have early development toys, puzzles, books, and activities for babies and toddlers to discover and learn. Meet other caregivers in the community while your little one explores!

Ages 2 months-18 months with adult.

Weekly movement, rhymes & music. Please make alternate arrangements for other children.

This playful class led by Sue Haberman will get children moving and engage their imagination through simple yoga poses combined with music, props and games. Increased body awareness, attention span, energy release and relaxation are just some of the benefits of this fun class!

Early Literacy Adventure: Dino Dig!

We’ll dig into an adventure searching for ‘fossils’ and other dinosaur treasures from prehistoric times! Solve some puzzles with ABC’s, colors, and shapes to earn fun prizes!

Sept. 11: Miss Brooks’ Story Nook, by Barbara Bottner. We’ll read the book together, then make a fun Fall craft. **(Registration for this program opens on September 1 for NSD residents and out of district residents.)
Oct. 16: How Big Could Your Pumpkin Grow? by Wendell Minor. We’ll read the book together, then decorate a pumpkin to take home.
Nov. 13: Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks, by Margaret Sutherland. We’ll read the book together, then make a Thanksgiving craft.
Dec. 4: The Perfect Tree, by Chloe Bonfield. We’ll read the book together, then create a craft to welcome winter.

Nov. 20: Who was Ben Franklin? by Dennis B. Fradin. We’ll discuss his story, learn about his many inventions, then make a craft based on one of them.
Dec. 11: The 13 Story Treehouse, by Andy Griffiths. We’ll discuss this adventure and then make an edible creation to take home.
